Proposal description:
The Gardens Swarm is requesting 1,000 HNY (~$10,310) to fund the launch of gardens v2 - a major platform overhaul in the works for a long time - which we are building to meet specifications presented in our previous funding proposal in March:
- More accessible and friendlier for new DAO creators
- More flexible, allowing for multiple voting strategies
- Upgradeable for existing Gardens
- As decentralized and secure as existing Gardens
- Achievable with available resources
This funding will compensate the Gardens Swarm’s active contributors for the research, development, and growth/marketing needed to make this launch as successful as possible and in time for our planned launch date in March 2024.
Proposal Rationale
Gardens v2 will decouple the core idea of the platform as a community-owned enforceable covenant with some of the hard-coded implementation aspects of v1 like Conviction Voting, Celeste for dispute arbitration, and Decision / Tao Voting.
Instead gardens v2 will serve as a more modular coordination mechanism that gives organizations access to custom spending strategies like Conviction Voting, Fluid Proposals, and Quests/Bounties which they can invest their treasuries through in any number of combinations, instances, and funding tokens. By integrating with Allo Protocol, gardens v2 will provide cutting edge innovation in public goods funding through allo v2’s secure & audited smart contracts.
At the core of gardens v2’s infrastructure is a community covenant smart contract we’re designing to be as simple as possible, optimized for the purpose of:
a) encoding a community’s values / mission in an on-chain social contract
b) linking that covenant to the various smart contracts connected to the community, and
c) allowing people to signal support for the community through staking.
v2 will introduce many upgrades like:
- Improved UI/UX for Conviction Voting, including the integration of Streaming Proposals (Fluid Proposals)
- Deployed to more networks (Gnosis Chain, Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum, and others by demand)
- Dispute resolution through linked multisig juries in addition to Celeste.
- More versatile systems for governance weight, customizable for each spending strategy.
- Additional treasury spending strategies through Allo v2 added by demand, including Donation Voting, Direct Grants, and Quadratic Voting.
- A new look designed to make it easier and more fun to use gardens!
Gardens is actively pursuing grants and plans to fund over 50% of our v2 work from sources outside of 1Hive. So far Gardens has received over $60k in grants and donations over the last 2 years from sources like Gitcoin, Polygon, The Graph, Safe Guardians, and Giveth. We’ve never received VC funding and would like to keep it this way so we can stay 100% community-owned forever.
