Make an online chess prix on lichess.org, paying the prizes in HNY

The title is pretty self-explanatory, I think there is one open tournament every two weeks with more than 1k usd in prizes. So, similar to the IBJJF idea (Partnership with IBJJF), but this one could be cheaper, and also attract more people that are more time at the computer per day (not sure if chess is actually a crypto-friendly audience, it probably is).

I think this idea resonates more with the crypto community. I know a few months ago, the ethereum community was all about chess including vitalik and had like a Friday tournament every week and was getting rad publicity on twitter with various famous CT chads duelling each other online. Not sure what the community here thinks but I have also been in a couple of other meme based cyrpto communities that sponsored an event on lichess and it was great to see the community engaged but also to see some new users checking it out as its an open tournament for anyone to join. Have you put the thought out on discord general? May be you should or come along to the ‘Cafe’ call next friday its around 4PM UTC and bring the idea up… there is always someone hanging out there that might give you some feedback.

@Tonga hey brother, if I have seen people who play chess a lot and spend hours on it in a page or application called lichess https://lichess.org/ :white_check_mark: it would really be interesting to see a competition or tournament based on the cryptocurrency world! since the strategies or the level of many users who play is extraordinary

Even in a project in which I am an active user called Shenanigan we do weekly challenges or a tournament where they give a unique nft to the winner you are invited

Greetings from Colombia

Yeah, I would def want to play in a chess tourney. I recently played in the tournament that ChessDAO put together as a part of DAO Rush week. Those peeps were really good though…so let’s not invite them

Well first of all, that´s a great idea!
Lichess is a good web but well if you use it often you´ll see that are some cheaters.
I think this tournament would be private for the community right? So I guess there won´t be any cheaters, the thing with this is that maybe somebody could tell their brother or sister to play for them, (their sibling is a 2000 or something).
I don´t really know what to do with that, maybe a video call or something. But I don´t want it myself. I prefer not revealing my face XD.
Anyway I think it is an epic idea, the prizes should be discussed, but that is admins stuff.

For the ChessDAO tournament they said that they had some kind of software that analyzed the games to see if people were using bots. We could reach out to them and ask about that. Wouldn’t exactly prevent people getting their sibling to play for them but would def help with cheaters. Sad thing is a good cheater will probably always find a way.

I was thinking the opposite, open tournament with the idea to bring more people to the community, something like once a week or once every two weeks. An option can be that the top players along 12 tournaments classify to the final.
In regards to anti-cheat, how it works so far, from what I know, (approximately, in case the idea keeps moving forward can make sure the details are better stablished) if someone suspects the opponent is playing all computer moves, he can ask the site to review, (not sure if it’s being checked permanently automatically) and in case they confirm they are cheating the players get disqualified obviously.
There’s still good players that cheat by making a few moves from the comp and a few themselves so, it’s not impossible to cheat.
I didn’t talk much about it, at first because I was trying to see it from 1Hive’s point of view, and I don’t think that affects much the goal of promoting HNY or making 1Hive more famous, but obviously for the players and reputation it’s cool to promote fair play.

I actually didn’t play a lot of poker so I would be up for this.

If I remember correctly I think Metagame held a chess tournament during metafest hand in hand w the guys over at https://niftychess.com/ who make NFTs out of saved games either on lichess or another very similar platform - I very much like the idea of funding tournaments as a way of fostering a growing community and also generating content and making people look this way through these sorts of activations

But it does affect the hopes of the player, imagine you think you have possibilities and you come upon a cheater… Unless we implement good anticheat strategies that person will not participate in any other tournament. We have to play safe regarding that.

Well I guess it is like that, cheaters will be around us forever, just hope not to come upon one.
